Taking It Easy for a While

30 June 2013

Due to some unexpected personal circumstances on Fab’s end, our output of podcast episodes will slow down for a while

Due to some unexpected personal circumstances I will not be able to devote as much time as I would like to producing shows for the network in the next few weeks. This means that our output of episodes for both Linux Outlaws and Angels of Death will most likely get more sporadic over the summer. I currently cannot share the details of the situation that has caused this but I will let you all know as soon as possible.

I know this will cause the inevitable suggestions of turning the editing of the shows over to the listeners and maybe someone will even call for getting a replacement host, but I think both Dan and me have explained in the past why these aren’t options we are comfortable with; and I am sure Dave will agree as well. Both Linux Outlaws and Angels of Death will continue as before, just the schedule will be a bit more ropey for a while and you will get less episodes. I am truly sorry that this has to happen but I am sure you will understand once I am able to share the news that hit me this week.

Linux Outlaws 316, which was recorded on Monday, should be out tomorrow to tide you over for a while. As soon as Dan and me have nailed down a tentative schedule for the next recording, I will update the countdown timer at the bottom of the page. The next Angels of Death is also being planned but I can’t tell you when that will happen yet.

I hope you understand, sometimes life just happens quite unexpectedly.

~ Fab

You’ll get back in the game whenever you’re ready. Get whatever it is sorted, then come back and rant when you’re ready. Don’t rush it or it’ll feel like a chore.

    All the best,

Life throws us a curve ball here and there. I hope you get through whatever is going on okay. I know your fans will be here with support.
I’ll miss LO during this time. I’m a relatively new listener and have only listened to a few shows. Well I’m subscribed to your YouTube channel so now’s a good time to catch up on all the old shows.

Sounds like something more serious than the Penguins sucking in the playoffs. Too bad. Hope things improve, whatever it is. I was going to take a picture of a piece of paper I just saw stapled to a telephone pole that said, “Watertown Strong Painting – fences, walls and houses,” send it to you as a kind of get well card. “Watertown Strong” or “Boston Strong” is this logo that’s popped up all over here after the Tsarnaev brothers blew through. Figured with your ear for bullshit you’d get a kick out of that. But you’re not sick, apparently, and I was too lazy to get off my bike and get my phone out.

As far as replacement hosts go that’s crap. Who would say that? Not sure why I squander nearly two hours when each episode comes out (hell, I wasted less time than that when I still read slashdot), but I guess it must be cause you have some kind of special talent and rapport that makes the show enjoyable. You were to be Avengers? I think of Howard Stern and Robin Quivers. There’s a similar kind of special special interplay or charisma happening between two contrasting personalites that makes it really work — at least that’s the association I have. Not sure who gets to be Robin.

No, I’m not sick and neither is Dan. I have some hard choices about my future to make at the moment. It’s nothing that won’t sort itself out but I basically don’t have the nerves to be working on LO at the same time. The situation is stressful as it is…

  23. July 13, 2013

Fab, good luck with whatever the deal is. (my guess that it is more serious than the fact you experimented with Windows 8 and it is going to take the summer to get rid of all the viruses and you don’t look like Edward Snowden so you can’t be applying for asylum somewhere).

Just read the news about the H. Guess that has a lot to do with it. That’s really tough after all the commitments you’ve made. I know there’s never any shortage of bad advice at times like this but hang in there. Loyal listeners will wait for your return.

I listen to you guys every week or so in the car while I’m at work – I kept smashing the refresh podcast button this past week hoping to see your latest show – but nothing. I checked in here, and now I know why.

All the best for whatever is causing you grief Fab – I look forward to hearing you back on the air mate!

We would need a hell of a lot of paid subscribers to even pay our salaries. A lot more than LO has listeners. If that was a business model, I am sure Heise would have considered it.

That is sad, but its amazing The H lasted as long as it did. It was an amazing site, RIP.

    Best of luck to you.

Maybe someday a larger newsoutlet will be able to hire someone with a bit more journalistic passion like you’ve always had.
