Nice to have another NY'er around in any case.
I'm in[and from] NY as well, around Albany.
Oh really? Nice.
Windigo, Asphere and I all live a stones throw away from you then (and we attend our local LUG). Check it out if you're interested: CDLUG dot net (I don't know what that CDLUG dot org is! Oo)
Thanks for the welcome guy's.
Although I've used Ubuntu for a few years now I still consider myself a noob (I know enough to be dangerous), so excuse my ignorance but what is CDLUG?
I know there is an Ubuntu group in Rochester (only 1 1/2 hours away) but I've never attended a meeting there even though I go to Rochester quite a bit for work.
I'm Jay and new to the forums. I live in upstate New York in a little city called Lockport about 30 miles from Niagara Falls to the north and Buffalo to the south. The Erie canal runs right through the middle of Lockport and the city got its name from the series of locks in the canal that take boats up and down the Niagara escarpment.
I've been listening to Linux Outlaws for about two years now and I've been using Ubuntu on my home desktop and laptop for about three or four years. I'm a hands on kind of guy and I've enjoyed the challenge of learning about Linux and especially attempting to conquer CLI in the terminal. I've had some success in setting up a home file server using FreeNAS.
My son's and I have recently gotten into Warhammer 40k, I enjoy painting the figures more than actually playing the game. I've been involved in re-enacting the American Civil War for about 21 years now and have introduced my sons to that hobby as well.
I'm looking forward to chatting with you all about Linux and related subjects.
Glad to be here!
