Green tea

After several bouts of sickness and some scheduling issues, we’re finally back! Fab and Dave discuss Hearts of Iron IV: Man the Guns, War of the Spark and how Microsoft has finally made the Year of Linux on the Desktop come about.

We’re back and not going anywhere. Hopefully.

First order of business is Windows getting a proper Linux kernel in the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 and also the amazing new terminal Microsoft just unveiled. Wat?

Fab talks bread-making. Proofing baskets, sour dough… we have it all!

Dave’s been playing The Hunter: Call of the Wild and Hearts of Iron IV: Man the Guns. He tells us about it. Also mentioned: The battleship Yamato.

We discuss War of the Spark, the latest – and greatest – Magic The Gathering expansion that’s out now. Fab’s been reading the accompanying book.

Fab’s also been spending his free time coding a Magic The Gathering card library app in Django. He’s named the app “Mage Tower”. It turned out to be more complicated than he first imagined.

We end the show with some feedback. If you want to tell us how you liked this episode, get in touch via Twitter, by joining the Sixgun Discord or by sending an email to feedback@sixgun.org. Thanks to Bytemark for graciously providing bandwith for this podcast.

Sits on the Top Rope, Poised to Strike

This time around, it’s all about professional wrestling and invading Poland in Hearts of Iron IV.

Sorry for missing a show. We promise we’ll make it up to you over the next few weeks before we take a short holiday time-out at the beginning of July.

Dave was on Two Star Podcast.

The Rock vs. Big Show

He’s also been watching a lot of professional wrestling and we chat about faces, heels and kayfabe. Dave really digs Sami Zayn, while Fab is still a massive fan of The Rock.

The Euro is coming up. We talk about our favourite teams. Fab is obsessed with the Germany kits. We also discuss horrible OEM updater code.

Fab mentions the recent raid on the Lovoo headquarters.

This was based on research by Fab’s colleagues at c’t. In other news, Jacob Appelbaum is in serious trouble.

Fab explains why Hearts of Iron IV is censored in Germany. We also tell the story of how he got around that. He gives a brief impression of what the game is like. It basically feels like you’re commanding a real army. With all the bureaucracy and shit.

As a side effect of playing the game, Fab now really likes Sabaton.

Hearts of Iron IV

We end the show with your feedback. While discussing this, Fab mentions his bike mechanic and we get recommended a podcast called Those Conspiracy Guys.

Is in Full Google-Rant Mode

Google has announced things at its I/O conference that Dave has opinions about, meanwhile Fab’s been busy building an interstellar empire in Stellaris.

The Philly police has been spying on people, pretending to be a Google Street View car – badly. Meanwhile, Idris Elba has been pegged to play Roland Deschain in the Dark Tower movie.

In other news: Linux Mint doesn’t come bundled with codecs any more and Schalke bought a LoL team. With Civ VI and Hearts of Iron IV, there are some great games coming up.

This podcast is now available on Google Play Music, if you’re in the US.

Dave mentions the new Hoops mode in Rocket League and asks Fab why he doesn’t like Eurovision. He then proceeds to rant about all the stupid stuff from Google I/O. Fab says he’ll create a Google Allo account called General von Klinkerhoffen. That’s an ‘Allo ‘Allo reference.

Fab talks about the developer console from hell in Doom and then dives into explaining why Stellaris is awesome. You should definitely read this Eurogamer piece on it, it’s dead funny and brilliantly written. Stellaris also has a 40K mod.
