For the first time in the history of the podcast, Dan and Dave meet. We discuss FOSDEM, The Expanse Season 3 and Alita: Battle Angel.

First things first, Dave now has a cat and gives us an update on how he’s doing. Meet Iolo, he’s even more world weary than Dave…

Season 3 of The Expanse is great. And we can finally watch it over here. Thanks, Amazon!

In other news, Fab loves remoulade with his roast beef.

This episode was stuck in production hell for ages, but it’s finally out and so you get a very belated, but still informative, FOSDEM discussion.

Atom Power Mode gets mentioned, as does the excellent podcast The Greatest Generation.

Dan also manages to get Fab into the Fediverse live on the show.

Merry Christmas and a happy Brexit, everyone! We wrap up 2018 in style and look forward to 2019 with a massive two and a half hours long show.

After immediately slipping into a Magic discussion with Dave, Fab recommends Springsteen on Broadway on Netflix to everyone because it made him cry. There’s also a great interview with Bruce in Esquire magazine.

Fab gives a quick overview of playing the Battlefleet Gothic: Armada II beta. It looks quite promising.

Games Workshop has started a video series called Angels of Death. Of course it can’t possibly compare to the original.

They’ve also started a 40K podcast and hey, it’s an actual podcast! Like, with an RSS feed! Wonders never cease…

We wrap up 2018 with a look back at the year and our podcasting. We also make some wild predictions for 2019, because history tells us that this must be done.

Mike

  • Death Company Primaris Marines will enter the lore
  • Another Primarch will surface: Russ, The Lion, Fulgrim or Lorgar
  • Primaris Marines will enter the meta as cost reductions have started with Vigilus and Chapter Approved
  • Hollywood execs decide that it is time to reboot the Avengers and make a new Mario Brothers movie
  • There will be a niche market for pre-apocalypse party sets or survival gear in the UK
  • Trump will be impeached or resign

Dave

  • Microsoft won’t buy Canonical in 2019
  • No Deal Brexit is coming
  • Leman Russ will return to 40K

Fab

  • Microsoft will buy Canonical in 2019
  • The only people in the EU who will even notice Brexit are those ordering from Games Workshop or Amazon UK
  • Magic Esports will be very successful and paper Magic tournaments will profit from it
  • Star Citizen won’t come out in 2019

We have no feedback this time as, again, the previous episode wasn’t released when we recorded this one.

GNR 49 – Columbo on the Orient Express

People On This Episode

Show Notes

Fab and Dave talk about the new Firefox release, the movie Murder on the Orient Express and review the game Heat Signature.

Firefox has released what they say is their “biggest update ever.” We evaluate it, based on having used the new version for about five minutes.

Fab has seen the new Murder on the Orient Express and liked it a lot. Kenneth Branagh’s moustache should get an Oscar.

Dave hasn’t seen the new movie but still thinks he prefers David Suchet as Poirot.

As promised, we review Tom Francis‘ game Heat Signature. Unsurprisingly, we really like it. Even though it can be punishing as hell.

Fab would like to point out that he unlocked the Everything Gun before it was cool.

We end the show with you feedback. Including the fact that X1101 likes Nikola and this fucking thing:

What. The. FUCK.

The winged hussars have arrived. On this GNR: Dave hates No Man’s Sky and Suicide Squad. And we discuss what makes a game.

Winged Hussars

We are back. And we explain why we didn’t podcast for a while. Well, Dave did. But it was on another show. We also hype on about Sabaton endlessly.

Fab’s taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Hamburg. Dave saw Suicide Squad and absolutely hated it. He did, however, love I Am Slaughter.

We then discuss No Man’s Sky. Which Dave absolutely didn’t like. Fab likes it a bit, but much prefers Elite. We also have a fight about if this is actually a game or not. We aren’t sure.

And as if all of that wasn’t enough bullshit, we also answer your questions.

Offshore Mike

Offshore Mike joins us for a nice long Black Library discussion, Dave reviews Huel, explains Bullet Journal and Fab rants about Star Trek Beyond.

First off: trouble is brewing at Cyanogen. In other sad news, The Expanse is not streaming on Amazon Prime in the UK. Of course not, because we can’t have nice things. To make things worse (or better, if you agree with Dave), Niantic has shut down third party Pokémon Go services. The bastards.

Dave remembers FOSS Talk Live and gives us a review of Huel. What a brave man. Apparently it tastes like cardboard with some extra grit mixed in for flavour.

Huel

We then discuss Bullet Journal, Passion Planner and wank on about notebooks from Leuchtturm 1917 and Analog.

Bullet Journal

Also: Operation Teapot. Wow.

Mike talks about the latest instalment in the Horus Heresy series, Angels of Caliban by Gav Thorpe and we philosophise if Luther is maybe not such a bad guy after all.

Luther

Mike finds out that he is not the greatest private detective in the world when he fails to guess Laurie Goulding’s email address to send questions about starship names to him. However, the questions have finally arrived with Laurie and we can hopefully present his answers in a future show.

We also discuss The Beast Arises.

To round out the show, Fab explains a lot of stuff that is wrong with Star Trek Beyond. For one thing, Idris Elba completely fizzles out under all that makeup. Well, at least we guess that’s Idris Elba…

Krall

We end the show with …you guessed it… feedback.
