Show Notes

Full house on Geek News Radio. We got Mike, we got Char and we got the bants. Lots of bants. And Korean skincare.

We’re starting off the show by talking about drinks and by catching up with what Char’s been up to – among other things the Screenshake festival. She also has a newsletter now. Out of respect for her, there won’t be any The Expanse talk this episode, because… spoilers. Check out these wisdoms from Avasarala in the meantime.

Dave has a message for Jono Bacon. Fab updates everyone on what’s been going on with the EDRPG: i.e. a huge copyright cockup. Also: The Commanders update is coming to Elite. Mike’s been enjoying the game lately and has been trying to recruit his friends to join him.

Dave played a lot of board games when he visited Char. They talk about some of them, including Deep Sea Adventure and Mechs & Minions.

For people who used to listen to Linux Outlaws, Fab gives a short heads-up on what’s been happening with LiMux in Munich. This degenerates into a political discussion about Trump and the state of the world right now. Mike recommend the book It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis.

Mike recaps some of the latest developments with Warhammer 40K, including The Gathering Storm.

Char explains Korean skincare to the guys. It involves snail goop, I shit you not. Check out Chok Chok Glow and also YellowyCream on YouTube.

Getting bored by now? Make your own Trump tweet. Sad.

Dave tries to get everyone to watch weird anime like Yuri on Ice, Haikyuu and Psycho Pass. Fab admits that he used to watch Attack No.1 (which is called Mila Superstar in Germany). Also: Disco Metal.

Char says everyone needs to watch Tom Hardy’s Taboo.

Show Notes

It’s time for another Geek News Radio broadcast. On this show: Overwatch, Pokémon Go, Brexit and girls in tanks.

We start with the depressing topic of Brexit and come to the conclusion that everything is fucked now. At least our respective holidays in Scotland were fun. With the exception of Fab’s motorbike accident.

A pretty bad bug has been discovered in some UEFI implementations and Frankie Adams looks great as Bobbie Draper. Meanwhile Matthew McConaughey looks amazing as the Man in Black.

Fab has reversed his stance on Overwatch somewhat. Turns out it’s actually a very good game. Fab and Dave have been playing it together.

Winning Team

As requested by the listeners, Fab talks a bit about Snap, Flatpak and AppImage and what each of these do. He also tries to answer Dave’s question why we need this stuff at all. He then talks a bit about Panzermadels, which as a game concept is proper mad. This leads to Dave mentioning Girls und Panzer.

Girls und Panzer

After all of this, we also must address Pokémon Go, of course. It’s the biggest thing to happen in mobile gaming since ever, really.

Pokémon Go

We end the show, as always, with your feedback. This includes a message from Terile, who sends us a lot of statistics on how the world generates energy. If you want to play Overwatch with us, our Battle.net handles are davidmn#2892 and fabsh#2786.

Show Notes

It’s the new year and we are back! In this episode, Fab and Dave talk about The Expanse, the death of Ian Murdock and Dave reviews his OnePlus X. Also: rants.

Nobody’s drinking Baileys. Fab’s having Honey Dew, Dave’s drinking Jura Origin.

As you’d espect, we talk The Expanse. Episode 5, Back to the Butcher, just aired. You can follow the cast and crew on Twitter, and you should – they are live tweeting the whole thing and it’s hilarious. SyFy has also uploaded a bunch of 3D models to Thingiverse that you can print yourself.

Dave tells us about Star Wars and why battle meditation is important. He then reviews the OnePlus X, which you have to have an invite to buy, apparently. Le sigh. They also talked about this on Buggered Impedance.

We discuss Debian founder Ian Murdock, who recently killed himself. Even though you really shouldn’t do that.

Dave now likes Fallout 4 more, since he rolled a new character who kills everyone and wears no pants. Dave recommends the anime One Punch Man and also the EVE: Valkyrie comics.

At the end of the show, we answer your questions and read out your feedback. If you are in California at the end of January and are a Linux nut, you might want to go to the SCALE conference in Pasadena.

Our friend Dan’s going under the knife next week. We wish him all the best!
