Show Notes

We are joined by our friend Joseph Ward to talk about Warhammer, Total War and Age of Sigmar.

Joe explains how he came to be on the show. We then start the episode with sportsball: The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the Stanley Cup and Germany and Wales are doing quite well in the Euro. We also discuss some E3 news and Dave rants about Apple’s WWDC event. Dave did like the Warcraft movie though, while Fab remains sceptical.

Total Warhammer

The Old World

Onwards to the main topic: Warhammer. Fab discusses the recently released Total War: Warhammer (“Total Warhammer”) and Joe explains how he came to play Warhammer Fantasy Battle – Fab and Dave were partly to blame thanks to Angels of Death. He now plays Age of Sigmar, however, and likes it very much. He even plays in tournaments from time to time and explains how the organisers modify the rules to make games more balanced.

After Joe runs away like a coward to attend to his fatherly duties, we end the show by addressing your feedback.

Show Notes

Fab and Dave discuss Dragon Age II, the board game Bolt Action and about creating voxel art with MagicaVoxel.

We start off with another talk about the Apple vs. FBI kerfuffle and Fab complains about the price of the new iPad Pro and Apple’s pencil.

Fab reviews Dragon Age II, which is one of his favourite video games ever. He thinks it’s generally very underrated. In a future episode, Fab will also cover Dragon Age: Inquisition which he’s started now.

Dave covers the historical wargame Bolt Action, which he considers superior to Warhammer 40K as far as rules and miniature prices is concerned. Dave’s playing the Finnish army and we mention the White Death. Fab rather fancies Roza Shanina, however.

Fab recently got into voxel art and explains how to work with MagicaVoxel. He mentions inspiration from Sir Carma and from MagicaVoxel-creator ephtracy. Also have a look at their Twitter accounts, if you are interested in this: @sir_carma, @ephtracy.

Show Notes

This time, we are entering The Dark Zone. We talk The Division, Master of Orion and the latest Microsoft and Apple news.

You need to update your Kindle (if it’s old). In other news: Why is Microsoft so shit? What the hell is the Universal Windows Platform and why did they close Lionhead?

Apparently there was an Apple thing. And a security problem with an Apple thing.

Dave really likes Tom Clancy’s The Division. Fab tries to find out why. Fab then talks about Master of Orion and Stardew Valley.

Dave will be at FOSS Talk Live in London on 6 August. He also says you should check out Icarus’ board game blog, where Icarus blogs about board games.

Fab reminisces about Lexx: The Dark Zone. As usual, we end the show with your feedback where we learn about Wileyfox.

Show Notes

An episode full of gaming. We discuss the two most hyped games right now: Firewatch and XCOM 2. We also bring you some security and privacy-related talk.

To kick things off, we discuss the DROWN attack and MouseJack. And Fab rants about the Apple vs. FBI discussion running rampant in the media at the moment. In other news: Black Library is selling some ace t-shirts.

Go watch Deadpool. It’s brilliant.

Dave reviews Firewatch. More precisely, he reviews the ceiling of the elevator at the beginning of Firewatch since that’s all he got to see of the game. As you can see on his Steam account, he didn’t get to run it for very long at all because of this rather game-breaking bug. Best review ever!

Firewatch Elevator

Not dissuaded by this setback, Dave goes on to review his favourite emoticons as well: the hole in the ground, the aubergine and the roasted sweet potato. Another thing he really enjoys are Games Workshop’s new long-form videos of new game systems.

Fab gives his impressions of the HTC Vive and talks briefly of the new Master of Orion game which he’s playing around with. He will talk about it in detail on an upcoming episode. Fab then goes on to review XCOM 2 and explains why he thinks it’s a very solid game, if pretty overhyped as far as he’s concerned.

To wrap things up, we look at your feedback, including one email that came in from the future.
