In a special one-off episode, Dave and Fab are talking about the death of PC operating systems. It’s coming. Or is it?

Since Fab has deleted our April Fools episode by accident, we bring you an alternative episode โ€“ Episode 59b if you will.

Our in-depth topic for this episode is the end of PC operating systems. Is the death of Windows at hand? Will Apple stop producing Macs? Dave just thinks people’s usage of computers has changed.

In a major shock, it also seems like Dave and Fab have completely swapped their opinions on what computers and operating systems they prefer.

We had already recorded Episode 60 at the time of recording this episode and that one will be out soon as well. Please excuse any damage done to the timeline in this episode.

Show Notes

Three quarters of the Vier Feldherren unite once again to bring you Warhammer news and some 40K painting progress. And lack thereof, of course. We also talk about an Apple fail and live music.

Fab’s been working on a new look for the Sixgun site and hopes you don’t find it completely despicable. Dave’s also redesigned his site. The SSL errors haven’t changed, though.

We talk about our plans for Sabaton Open Air, also known as “Operation SOAP”.

Fab went to see Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul in Hamburg.

We laugh heartily at macOS being shit and talk about the news in Warhammer Land:

Dave, Mike and Fab review their #4Feldherren progress. It looks like Dave is the clear winner here. Fab and Mike are locked in the turtle race for second place. Shout-out to listener Niklas for showing us how it’s done.

Dave also beat Icarus at 40K โ€“ actually playing this game, what is this madness???ย  ๏ƒฐ

We end the show with listener feedback and a question from Fab: What gaming monitor should he buy? This is perfect but too expensive…

Show Notes

We are joined by our friend Joseph Ward to talk about Warhammer, Total War and Age of Sigmar.

Joe explains how he came to be on the show. We then start the episode with sportsball: The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the Stanley Cup and Germany and Wales are doing quite well in the Euro. We also discuss some E3 news and Dave rants about Apple’s WWDC event. Dave did like the Warcraft movie though, while Fab remains sceptical.

Total Warhammer

The Old World

Onwards to the main topic: Warhammer. Fab discusses the recently released Total War: Warhammer (“Total Warhammer”) and Joe explains how he came to play Warhammer Fantasy Battle โ€“ Fab and Dave were partly to blame thanks to Angels of Death. He now plays Age of Sigmar, however, and likes it very much. He even plays in tournaments from time to time and explains how the organisers modify the rules to make games more balanced.

After Joe runs away like a coward to attend to his fatherly duties, we end the show by addressing your feedback.

Show Notes

Fab and Dave discuss Dragon Age II, the board game Bolt Action and about creating voxel art with MagicaVoxel.

We start off with another talk about the Apple vs. FBI kerfuffle and Fab complains about the price of the new iPad Pro and Apple’s pencil.

Fab reviews Dragon Age II, which is one of his favourite video games ever. He thinks it’s generally very underrated. In a future episode, Fab will also cover Dragon Age: Inquisition which he’s started now.

Dave covers the historical wargame Bolt Action, which he considers superior to Warhammer 40K as far as rules and miniature prices is concerned. Dave’s playing the Finnish army and we mention the White Death. Fab rather fancies Roza Shanina, however.

Roza Shanina

Fab recently got into voxel art and explains how to work with MagicaVoxel. He mentions inspiration from Sir Carma and from MagicaVoxel-creator ephtracy. Also have a look at their Twitter accounts, if you are interested in this: @sir_carma, @ephtracy.

Show Notes

This time, we are entering The Dark Zone. We talk The Division, Master of Orion and the latest Microsoft and Apple news.

You need to update your Kindle (if it’s old). In other news: Why is Microsoft so shit? What the hell is the Universal Windows Platform and why did they close Lionhead?

Apparently there was an Apple thing. And a security problem with an Apple thing.

Dave really likes Tom Clancy’s The Division. Fab tries to find out why. Fab then talks about Master of Orion and Stardew Valley.

Dave will be at FOSS Talk Live in London on 6 August. He also says you should check out Icarus’ board game blog, where Icarus blogs about board games.

Fab reminisces about Lexx: The Dark Zone. As usual, we end the show with your feedback where we learn about Wileyfox.
