Full house on Geek News Radio. We got Mike, we got Char and we got the bants. Lots of bants. And Korean skincare.

We’re starting off the show by talking about drinks and by catching up with what Char’s been up to – among other things the Screenshake festival. She also has a newsletter now. Out of respect for her, there won’t be any The Expanse talk this episode, because… spoilers. Check out these wisdoms from Avasarala in the meantime.

Dave has a message for Jono Bacon. Fab updates everyone on what’s been going on with the EDRPG: i.e. a huge copyright cockup. Also: The Commanders update is coming to Elite. Mike’s been enjoying the game lately and has been trying to recruit his friends to join him.

Dave played a lot of board games when he visited Char. They talk about some of them, including Deep Sea Adventure and Mechs & Minions.

For people who used to listen to Linux Outlaws, Fab gives a short heads-up on what’s been happening with LiMux in Munich. This degenerates into a political discussion about Trump and the state of the world right now. Mike recommend the book It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis.

Mike recaps some of the latest developments with Warhammer 40K, including The Gathering Storm.

Char explains Korean skincare to the guys. It involves snail goop, I shit you not. Check out Chok Chok Glow and also YellowyCream on YouTube.

Getting bored by now? Make your own Trump tweet. Sad.

Dave tries to get everyone to watch weird anime like Yuri on Ice, Haikyuu and Psycho Pass. Fab admits that he used to watch Attack No.1 (which is called Mila Superstar in Germany). Also: Disco Metal.

Char says everyone needs to watch Tom Hardy’s Taboo.

Show Notes

We’re bravely ignoring the fact that the world is ending soon to play Civilization VI and talk about spaceships and Blood Bowl.

The End Times are upon us, but at least Dave has fixed his PC. Therefore we can talk about many interesting things while we are waiting on the world to be completely fucked over in the wake of the US presidential election.

Dave tells us of his experience at EVE London, which to be honest just sounds like an excuse to get drunk. The Expanse is now on Netflix and Fab’s been watching it again in all it’s glory, which he talks about at length. He also gives away the code to unlock him as a playable character in The Curious Expedition.

Explorer Fab

We discuss the Metalcaptcha and Tim “The Machine” Wiese, who is fearsome, no matter what sport he plays.

Tim Wiese

Meanwhile, the Internet of Shit goes nuclear and some folks are kickstarting a Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill game called Slaps and Beans. Of course, Fab has to explain to the Brit who the hell Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill are…

We move on to talk about Doctor Strange and the new version of the Blood Bowl board game, which you can pre-order on Saturday. In the main part of the show, Fab and Dave have a long conversation around the good and bad things about Civilization VI.

Show Notes

This episode has it all: EVE Online, Stellaris, Dawn of War, politics and even a review of the Captain America movie.

Obama is gone, Isernhagen has peace once again. Fab took this picture of Air Force One as it flew by his flat:

Breaking news: Apparently Trump can’t be stopped now. In more positive news, Dawn of War III has been announced and we are feeling the hype.

Dave regales us with his latest adventures in EVE Online. He’s been building a citadel and has bought a Caracal. We also talk about the Rokh and the Jackdaw. After all the EVE love, Dave gives his impressions on Captain America: Civil War, which he found to be rather meh.

FOSS Talk Live is sold out but we want you to come anyway.

Fab talks about the Panama Papers and the TTIP leak and what he thinks is wrong with all of it. We also debate the curious case of Craig Wright and why his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto are probably bullshit. Fab then goes completely fanboy about Stellaris, which he only found out about recently. You should read their developer diaries.

We end the show with your feedback. Join our Steam group if you want to play games with us. Full speed ahead!

Show Notes

This time, we are entering The Dark Zone. We talk The Division, Master of Orion and the latest Microsoft and Apple news.

You need to update your Kindle (if it’s old). In other news: Why is Microsoft so shit? What the hell is the Universal Windows Platform and why did they close Lionhead?

Apparently there was an Apple thing. And a security problem with an Apple thing.

Dave really likes Tom Clancy’s The Division. Fab tries to find out why. Fab then talks about Master of Orion and Stardew Valley.

Dave will be at FOSS Talk Live in London on 6 August. He also says you should check out Icarus’ board game blog, where Icarus blogs about board games.

Fab reminisces about Lexx: The Dark Zone. As usual, we end the show with your feedback where we learn about Wileyfox.

Show Notes

An episode full of gaming. We discuss the two most hyped games right now: Firewatch and XCOM 2. We also bring you some security and privacy-related talk.

To kick things off, we discuss the DROWN attack and MouseJack. And Fab rants about the Apple vs. FBI discussion running rampant in the media at the moment. In other news: Black Library is selling some ace t-shirts.

Also: #MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain

Go watch Deadpool. It’s brilliant.

Dave reviews Firewatch. More precisely, he reviews the ceiling of the elevator at the beginning of Firewatch since that’s all he got to see of the game. As you can see on his Steam account, he didn’t get to run it for very long at all because of this rather game-breaking bug. Best review ever!

Firewatch Elevator

Not dissuaded by this setback, Dave goes on to review his favourite emoticons as well: the hole in the ground, the aubergine and the roasted sweet potato. Another thing he really enjoys are Games Workshop’s new long-form videos of new game systems.

Fab gives his impressions of the HTC Vive and talks briefly of the new Master of Orion game which he’s playing around with. He will talk about it in detail on an upcoming episode. Fab then goes on to review XCOM 2 and explains why he thinks it’s a very solid game, if pretty overhyped as far as he’s concerned.

To wrap things up, we look at your feedback, including one email that came in from the future.
