Only Plays Stardew Valley

Show Notes

Dave and Fab try to explain Meltdown and Spectre and review the newest Expanse book, Persepolis Rising. Also: Something, something blockchain.

Welcome to the first episode of 2018! To kick everything off, we give our predictions for the year.

What will be your Game of the Year?

What will be the Bitcoin price on 1 December 2018?

  • Fab: €80,000
  • Dave: $100

Will there be a bigger security fuckup than Meltdown and Spectre?

  • Fab: No
  • Dave: No

Will the nukes be fired?

  • Fab: No
  • Dave: No

Will Star Citizen come out?

  • Fab: No
  • Dave: No, the company will fold

Dave also predicts another FOSS Talk Live on 9 June 2018.

We try to explain the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. What does it all mean? How doomed are we? Some of the points discussed might actually not be completely wrong.

In gaming news, old-school RPG guru Brian Fargo is launching a Steam competitor. Does this have even a remote chance of succeeding? Something, something blockchain!

Also: Secret of Mana is coming to the PC. Holy shit!!!

Dave, meanwhile, is more excited about Viticulture.

In the main part of the show, we discuss the latest Expanse book, Persepolis Rising. We conclude it’s not the best book in the series, but it’s still damn fucking good.

Then it’s onto your feedback, before we end the episode.

Punished Venom Slippers

Show Notes

Once again, Dave and Fab bring you everthing: rants, laughter, lethargy. We talk Zelda, the Nintendo Switch, Tom Hardy’s Taboo and the current Elite Dangerous beta.

David sent us some beer and Fab’s enjoying it during the show.

Fab’s been massively enjoying Tom Hardy’s Taboo. So naturally, we talk about it. You need to watch it. Watch it now!

Meanwhile, Dave’s been playing highly relevant game releases. Like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Something, something, Punished Venom Pancake, something, something, exploding ghost soldier whale.

In more serious game news, Fab’s been trying the new Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch. We talk about that too. Joy or Con?

Dave likes watches that are slow. Which probably explains why he plays video games that are years out of date. Fab will probably never buy another watch again. Probably also because he’s spending all of his time in the current Elite Dangerous 2.3 Beta “The Commanders”, creating himself over and over again in the new character creator Holo-Me.

He even made it into the official Elite Dangerous newsletter with this shit. In other Elite news, the RPG is back and got funded on Kickstarter!

We talk about Mozilla buying Pocket and their plans for Firefox. Dave reviews Logan. We then pimp OggCamp 2017 as well as FOSS Talk Live and end the show with your feedback. Well, that and pith helmets. And pickelhauben pith helmets. Wat.

Offshore Mike

Show Notes

Offshore Mike joins us for a nice long Black Library discussion, Dave reviews Huel, explains Bullet Journal and Fab rants about Star Trek Beyond.

First off: trouble is brewing at Cyanogen. In other sad news, The Expanse is not streaming on Amazon Prime in the UK. Of course not, because we can’t have nice things. To make things worse (or better, if you agree with Dave), Niantic has shut down third party Pokémon Go services. The bastards.

Dave remembers FOSS Talk Live and gives us a review of Huel. What a brave man. Apparently it tastes like cardboard with some extra grit mixed in for flavour.

We then discuss Bullet Journal, Passion Planner and wank on about notebooks from Leuchtturm 1917 and Analog.

Bullet Journal

Also: Operation Teapot. Wow.

Mike talks about the latest instalment in the Horus Heresy series, Angels of Caliban by Gav Thorpe and we philosophise if Luther is maybe not such a bad guy after all.

Mike finds out that he is not the greatest private detective in the world when he fails to guess Laurie Goulding’s email address to send questions about starship names to him. However, the questions have finally arrived with Laurie and we can hopefully present his answers in a future show.

We also discuss The Beast Arises.

To round out the show, Fab explains a lot of stuff that is wrong with Star Trek Beyond. For one thing, Idris Elba completely fizzles out under all that makeup. Well, at least we guess that’s Idris Elba…

We end the show with …you guessed it… feedback.

Sleep, Work, EVE

Show Notes

This episode has it all: EVE Online, Stellaris, Dawn of War, politics and even a review of the Captain America movie.

Obama is gone, Isernhagen has peace once again. Fab took this picture of Air Force One as it flew by his flat:

Breaking news: Apparently Trump can’t be stopped now. In more positive news, Dawn of War III has been announced and we are feeling the hype.

Dave regales us with his latest adventures in EVE Online. He’s been building a citadel and has bought a Caracal. We also talk about the Rokh and the Jackdaw. After all the EVE love, Dave gives his impressions on Captain America: Civil War, which he found to be rather meh.

EVE Citadel 1

EVE Citadel 2

EVE Citadel 3

FOSS Talk Live is sold out but we want you to come anyway.

Fab talks about the Panama Papers and the TTIP leak and what he thinks is wrong with all of it. We also debate the curious case of Craig Wright and why his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto are probably bullshit. Fab then goes completely fanboy about Stellaris, which he only found out about recently. You should read their developer diaries.

We end the show with your feedback. Join our Steam group if you want to play games with us. Full speed ahead!

Tom Clancy's Megaslippers

Show Notes

This time, we are entering The Dark Zone. We talk The Division, Master of Orion and the latest Microsoft and Apple news.

You need to update your Kindle (if it’s old). In other news: Why is Microsoft so shit? What the hell is the Universal Windows Platform and why did they close Lionhead?

Apparently there was an Apple thing. And a security problem with an Apple thing.

Dave really likes Tom Clancy’s The Division. Fab tries to find out why. Fab then talks about Master of Orion and Stardew Valley.

Dave will be at FOSS Talk Live in London on 6 August. He also says you should check out Icarus’ board game blog, where Icarus blogs about board games.

Fab reminisces about Lexx: The Dark Zone. As usual, we end the show with your feedback where we learn about Wileyfox.
