Show Notes

This time around, Dave and Fab bring you a lot of hobby talk: Blood Bowl, Warhammer and White Dwarf. But they also talk tech news and spaceships.

Trump it is. We’re all screwed. The End Times indeed. In other bad news, the great Leonard Cohen has died.

There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in

But we also have some good news: Season 2 of The Expanse is coming to Syfy on 8 February.

If you want to know what the current date in 40K notation is, Fab’s got you covered. Also: EVE Online is now free! Wooohoo! Maybe Fab will finally stick with it now. Their berets leave much to be desired, though.

In other news, hell has frozen over! And a Hello Games designer who used to work for Molyneux is combo-chaining clusterfucks, he has gone to work at Star Citizen.

Next, it’s hobby talk. There’s a brand new Warhammer community site and Total Warhammer is coming to Linux. We talk Blood Bowl and Fab reviews the November issue of White Dwarf. Meanwhile, GNR collaborator Joe Ward has been featured on the GW site as part of #PaintingWarhammer.

Dave is now a fan of Microsoft’s tech support. He’s not a fan of upgrading his Ubuntu server, though. Also: Ghost in the Shell.

Show Notes

In this episode, we catch up with the news in the geek world. That includes Amazon’s Dash Buttons, EVE Online going free-to-play, aliens and other space news.

We’ve been playing Elite Dangerous, which is clearly the best space game. Do you play? Why not join the Ghost Division? Oh well, if you’d rather wait for Star Citizen and Squadron 42… it has been delayed. Of course it has.

Amazon Dash Buttons. What the fuck.

Aliens

We also discuss PlayStation Now streaming and the aliens that weren’t any. And Batman, Turkey.

Dave then explains EVE clone states. Basically, EVE’s gone free-to-play. Could be it’s to do with the subscribers going down. Probably is. In other news: Elon’s spacepenis exploded, Linux turned 25 (fuck me!) and OpenOffice is dying.

At this point in the show, listener Tim Fletcher injects some drama by asking our opinions on the University of Chicago letter and phil0co tells us about The Curious Expedition. Fab will review the game in the next episode.

Dave is going to Black Library Live 2016. Fab wishes he could go too. This sleep lab seems broken.

We cap the show with some feedback and say goodbye until next time when we will talk about Sabaton and other metallic things.

Show Notes

In the longest show to date Fab finally tackles Star Citizen and why it will fail, we discuss the Turkish coup, Pokémon, the Solus Project and Sabaton.

We start our current affairs segment with the bad news that Sabaton’s Thobbe Englund is quitting the band. Fab’s going to see one of his lasts shows at Elbriot. In other news, we still really like Pokémon Go, the Turkish coup was whatsapped and Dave discusses the DNC hack.

The Munich attacker apparently bought his Glock on the dark web, Tor says Appelbaum sexually harassed people and a vulnerability was discovered in LastPass.

In the main part of the show, Fab, as promised, finally tackles Star Citizen. Buckle up, it’s gonna get ugly, folks. After the barrage of mortars and guns has subsided and the panzer battalion has been through, nothing much is left standing. Even Derek Smart receives a few volleys in the fray.

When the dust has settled, Dave talks about the Solus Project which he heard about on Linux Luddites. Meanwhile, Fab discovers that he actually used to be a lot less mellow a few years ago, to the point that he even had a character assassination piece published on him. He’d forgotten all about that shit.

As is customary, we end the show with your feedback.

Show NotES

This episode is packed to the rafters with electric cars, Gunpla, KanColle, Horus Heresy and even some Linux talk.

We are taking a break until mid-July, while both Fab and Dave are on holiday in Scotland.

There’s a free music DLC for Europa Universalis IV – get it while it’s hot. Speaking of music, Fab saw Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at the Olympiastadion in Berlin and his voice is still suffering.

We talk Brexit, the Euro and the new story mode in FIFA 17. Dave mentions the Kickstarter for a new album by Fighting Evil is Cool. Sony is settling with PS3 owners for removing Linux from the console in 2010.

Fab did some more voxel work.

Fab thinks electric cars are shit, Dave sees it more nuanced.

Dave’s been into Gunpla recently and tries to explain to Fab why it’s great. Fab, however, gets very distracted by his discovery of KanColle in the middle of all of this. Dave bought his Gundam kits at 1999.co.jp – which is where Fab also found the battleship girls.

I mean, what the fuck. Girls that are also battleships. Those Japanese are mad!

Dave’s been continuing his reading the Horus Heresy and he really liked The Silent War and Pharos. He also mentions an amazing spaceship generator written in Python.

We end the show with answers to your questions. If you have some feedback, feel free to hit us up.

Show Notes

Google has announced things at its I/O conference that Dave has opinions about, meanwhile Fab’s been busy building an interstellar empire in Stellaris.

The Philly police has been spying on people, pretending to be a Google Street View car – badly. Meanwhile, Idris Elba has been pegged to play Roland Deschain in the Dark Tower movie.

Idris Elba as Roland Deschain

In other news: Linux Mint doesn’t come bundled with codecs any more and Schalke bought a LoL team. With Civ VI and Hearts of Iron IV, there are some great games coming up.

This podcast is now available on Google Play Music, if you’re in the US.

Dave mentions the new Hoops mode in Rocket League and asks Fab why he doesn’t like Eurovision. He then proceeds to rant about all the stupid stuff from Google I/O. Fab says he’ll create a Google Allo account called General von Klinkerhoffen. That’s an ‘Allo ‘Allo reference.

Fab talks about the developer console from hell in Doom and then dives into explaining why Stellaris is awesome. You should definitely read this Eurogamer piece on it, it’s dead funny and brilliantly written. Stellaris also has a 40K mod.
