We’re not dead and we have some (at this point pretty stale) E3 news. We also talk tech news stuff as well.

We recorded this episode during the week of E3. Due to a lot of shit going on in Fab’s life, it took us ages to release it. We are sorry for this. We hope you enjoy the episode nonetheless.

At the start of the episode, we recap some things that have happened since we recorded the last GNR. This includes The Expanse being saved, and FOSS Talk Live going well. An Fab’s a bit distracted because of this YouTube channel.

Last time Dave took a train in central Europe, it didn’t go so well.

Dave has been to the Rocket League World Championship and Fab talks about how his bike tour through the Alps went. Fab also saw Kiefer Sutherland play a concert in Hamburg an enjoyed it very much. Dave mentions The Happy Song.

We start off the show proper with some general news:

 Netrunner is dead

 Microsoft has bought GitHub

 Paradox has bought Harebrained Schemes

Next up is E3 news. We talk about Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls VI, Cyberpunk 2077 and the new Bethesda franchise.

We also discuss the PUBG winter map, Jurassic World Evolution and The Division 2. In non-gaming news: Babylon 5 is apparently coming to Amazon Video.

We end the show, as always, with your feedback.

Show Notes

In this episode, Fab reviews The Signal from Tölva and we talk about what’s coming to Warhammer 40K in the next weeks. We also talk about The Intercept completely fucking up and getting an NSA whistleblower outed.

Both Fab and Dave are getting into Warhammer 40K again and we’re quite excited about the #New40K. Sadly, Dave couldn’t make it to Warhammer Fest and now Fab himself has to buy Tom Walton the beer he promised him. In other Warhammer news, Dawn of War III is now out for Mac and Linux!

Fab has ridden down a lot of road on his motorbike this week and by request of some of you tells a few stories about that. Dave got some presents from listener Urban Koistinen, who he thanks profoundly.

We really love the new Alestorm album.

The Intercept really fucked over a whistleblower because neither her nor they knew about printer tracking dots.

What’s more funny is some hackers piloting their malware through comments on Britney Spears’ Instagram account.

In the main part of the show, Fab reviews The Signal from Tölva. A game that’s a bit S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but more chilled and a lot more beautiful. Fab likes it a lot.

Here’s a video of Fab playing the game. Just ignore the German voice, right?

Dave is sourcing questions for FOSS Talk Live. Do him a favour and submit some.

Unsurprisingly, we end the show by answering your questions.

Show Notes

Fab reviews Prey, Dave asks poignant questions about the new Star Trek series and there’s a lot of harmony all around. And an epic rant. We must have a rant.

Right off the bat, our two hosts fall into a massive rathole concerning personal developments. Fab got a new tattoo and is happy that his bike has been repaired.

He also got a 3D print of The Expanse‘s Rocinante from a colleague.

Meanwhile, Dave has been watching a screening of the first Harry Potter movie scored live by an orchestra. In other news, if you haven’t yet, subscribe to airproud95. He’s amazing. Officially our new favourite YouTuber.

Oh yeah, that arctic seed vault we talked about recently is in trouble.

At long last, we get to the main part of the show. Fab reviews Prey, which as far as we can tell, has next to nothing to do with the other Prey it’s loosely based on. Fab really likes it (the new Prey).

After this, we discuss the return of Twin Peaks and the Star Trek: Discovery trailer.

We have mixed feelings about what we saw. On one hand it’s exciting, on the other the ship looks quite shit. In an old school sort of way. And there are other problems with it, of course.

You didn’t send us much feedback, but we address what we have before ending the episode.

Show Notes

The multi-talented Char joins us to talk writing for Divinity: Original Sin 2, board games and right-to-left geekery.

Bolt Thrower announced that the band is no more. Was it us?

Fab thanks @amokleben for sending him coffee and enthuses over Alestorm.

DGR 2016 Hamburg

He also took part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Hamburg over the weekend – it was a lot of fun. The bikes stretched all across the Köhlbrandbrücke.

Köhlbrandbrücke

Dave and Char discuss Duelyst. It’s a card game. Without actual cards. Dave then reports of his experience at EVE_NT in Nottingham.

Apparently, Games Workshop now does live streams. Live Streams that are eleven fucking hours long.

And they are releasing Russ. Or is it Fulgrim in a wolfskin suit? Bard probably has an opinion on that.

In the spirit (ha ha) of getting even more drunk on the show, we discuss game-themed cocktails. If you want to get it burning, use Stroh Rum. Once the mist clears, you’ll have a hell of a Hangover.

Dave and Char recommend some nice board games. Some of them don’t even use boards. Fab would like to try some, but sadly, he has no friends. He also tells the story of how Risk nearly destroyed his life twice.

Divinity: Original Sin II

Since Char is a writer on Divinity: Original Sin II, we discuss the game. And its name. Which is almost as bad as Chasm: The Rift. Fab and Dave get chastised for having made their own character. The thing to do is pick Ifan – and the Oud, of course.

Fab and Dave discover that they don’t read as much fantasy books as they should. Char is writing a fantasy book herself and recommends some. There’s a handy list on a Kickstarter update from Larian Studios. It isn’t fantasy, but Dave bough the novel Hyperion live on the show on Char’s recommendation order.

We end the episode with Fab ignoring your feedback.

Also: Cheeky Nandos.

Show Notes

The winged hussars have arrived. On this GNR: Dave hates No Man’s Sky and Suicide Squad. And we discuss what makes a game.

Winged Hussars

We are back. And we explain why we didn’t podcast for a while. Well, Dave did. But it was on another show. We also hype on about Sabaton endlessly.

Fab’s taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Hamburg. Dave saw Suicide Squad and absolutely hated it. He did, however, love I Am Slaughter.

We then discuss No Man’s Sky. Which Dave absolutely didn’t like. Fab likes it a bit, but much prefers Elite. We also have a fight about if this is actually a game or not. We aren’t sure.

And as if all of that wasn’t enough bullshit, we also answer your questions.
