It’s been some time, but we are back. Fab and Dave talk Magic the Gathering, Rise of Industry and Linux kernel shenanigans. Fab also reviews Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

We’ve been away for a while, mostly because Fab was launching Hollywood Outlaws and because of that is currently rebuilding the Sixgun website. He’s also been really busy with work. Since he’s leaving soon for a holiday in the US, expect the episode draught to continue for a bit. We promise we’ll make up for the missed episodes at some point.

Our first topic this time is Doctor Strange, which Fab has finally seen. Dave reviewed it back on episode 27.

In the main part of the show, we discuss the code of conduct for the Linux kernel and Linus Torvalds’ sudden change of heart concerning sweary emails.

Dave revisits Two Point Hospital which he had mentioned on the show before. Fab, meanwhile, has been getting back into Magic the Gathering, because Dave told him about Magic the Gathering Arena. He’s now enjoying this quite a lot. If you’re interested in Magic or game design in general, Fab recommends the excellent Drive to Work podcast by Magic head designer Mark Rosewater, also known as Maro. He also gave a great lecture on game design at GDC 16.

We then have more games content, as Dave reviews Rise of Industry (which he didn’t like at all) and Fab reviews Shadow of the Tomb Raider which he loved. After we recorded the show, Fab also wrote a long review of the game on his blog.

We end the show by talking about your feedback.

Speaking of feedback, you can talk to us via Twitteron GitLab or by joining the Sixgun Discord and talking to us directly.

Dave and Fab discuss software development crunch, freelance journalism, music and the game Objects in Space. There’s also some geek news to wade through, of course.

Fab was a guest on FLOSS Weekly 492 together with Dan (you know, that guy from Linux Outlaws). Also, he’s going freelance with his day job by the end of the year. He’s also started a new Twitch channel. Dave’s been hit by crunch, and he says it’s as horrible as people say it is. He’s managed to work on his Kill Team stuff, though.

Fab’s been really enjoying Hulkoff. He’s also bought a ticket for Wacken 2019 as Sabaton is headlining.

Fab’s been playing Objects in Space and reviews the game.

Alex Jones is being shut down everywhere, Fab things this isn’t a good thing. Unsurprisingly, Dave disagrees. In other news, there’s now a campaign to fix PUBG. The first thing they should fix is the cheater problem.

Fallout 76 is not coming to Steam. Idiots.

We end the show with your feedback and the bombshell news that Dave has deleted his Twitter account. 😳

Err... What?

Mike, Dave and Fab discuss the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the Uber self-driving car accident. And of course, there’s Warhammer 40K talk.

Fab discovers that in Denmark, they also watch Dinner for One religiously on New Years. Mike and Fab then have to explain this concept to the Brit in the room.

Dave’s despairing over his Pixel C at last. Fab recommends he buy a real man’s laptop.

In this episode we, uncharacteristically, talk about the news.

The AI cars have started killing people.

And then there’s this business with Cambridge Analytica.

We give an update on our #4Feldherren plans and end the show by addressing your feedback. A discussion between Halefa and Jonathan M. H. was particularly funny. We also found some video games that have worse names than Divinity: Original Sin II. Some examples:

Show Notes

Dave and Fab discuss the G20 summit in Hamburg, their trip to Dublin, the 8th Edition of Warhammer 40K and the recent outbreak of the Petya/NotPetya ransomware.

At the start of the show, we discuss the G20 bullshit that has been happing in Hamburg. Fab is very happy the idiots didn’t burn his new flat to the ground.

We recently celebrated ten years of Sixgun Productions at Char’s place in Dublin. We had a great time and played many board games. Mike also brought crazy Danish sweets and liqueur.

Over to Warhammer talk: Dave has been playing the 8th Edition of 40K. He tells us how that turned out. Dave and Fab then both give a quick #4Feldherren progress update. Fab’s been using Parafilm as part of his new wet palette.

Fab then explains the recent Petya/NotPetya outbreak. There’s quite a fascinating story there.

Joe Kucan is an amazing actor.

As usual, we finish the show by answering some of your feedback.

Show Notes

Full house on Geek News Radio. We got Mike, we got Char and we got the bants. Lots of bants. And Korean skincare.

We’re starting off the show by talking about drinks and by catching up with what Char’s been up to – among other things the Screenshake festival. She also has a newsletter now. Out of respect for her, there won’t be any The Expanse talk this episode, because… spoilers. Check out these wisdoms from Avasarala in the meantime.

Dave has a message for Jono Bacon. Fab updates everyone on what’s been going on with the EDRPG: i.e. a huge copyright cockup. Also: The Commanders update is coming to Elite. Mike’s been enjoying the game lately and has been trying to recruit his friends to join him.

Dave played a lot of board games when he visited Char. They talk about some of them, including Deep Sea Adventure and Mechs & Minions.

For people who used to listen to Linux Outlaws, Fab gives a short heads-up on what’s been happening with LiMux in Munich. This degenerates into a political discussion about Trump and the state of the world right now. Mike recommend the book It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis.

Mike recaps some of the latest developments with Warhammer 40K, including The Gathering Storm.

Follow Frame Shift on Twitter.

Char explains Korean skincare to the guys. It involves snail goop, I shit you not. Check out Chok Chok Glow and also YellowyCream on YouTube.

Getting bored by now? Make your own Trump tweet. Sad.

Dave tries to get everyone to watch weird anime like Yuri on Ice, Haikyuu and Psycho Pass. Fab admits that he used to watch Attack No.1 (which is called Mila Superstar in Germany). Also: Disco Metal.

Char says everyone needs to watch Tom Hardy’s Taboo.

As always, we answer your feedback. Use Bytemark.
