On this instalment of GNR, Dave and Fab talk about Fallout 76 and discuss Magic: The Gathering for ages.

We are back from the brink with a fresh episode of Geek News Radio, massively long as always – mostly because we talk about Magic for over an hour.

Fab’s been annoying his neighbours with his boatswain’s call and Dave is back on Twitter. Fab’s also very excited about Springsteen on Broadway coming to Netflix.

Dave re-reviews Rise of Industry. It turns out he was wrong about it last time.

Fab reviews Fallout 76. Oh boy, it’s bad. You can also read his in-depth review on his blog: Parts IIIIII and IV.

Fab mentions Ivanpah Solar Power Facility.

We talk a lot about Magic: The Gathering which Fab recently got back into and also dragged Dave down with him. Mostly due to MTGA.

Cards mentioned:

We really like the Limited Resources podcast.

We end the show by talking about your feedback. People seemed to really like the return of Dan.

Speaking of feedback, you can talk to us via Twitteron GitLab or by joining the Sixgun Discordand talking to us directly.

Thanks to Bytemark for graciously providing bandwith for this podcast.

This is a long one. Dave, Mike and Fab talk Warhammer 40K, Kill Team and also give a short review of The Bard’s Tale IV.

We start the show off with some housekeeping. Fab has recently backed two Kickstarter projects that you might find interesting: Encased, the RPG made by Char’s friend Slava and also Things From the Flood, a Simon Stålenhag RPG.

An Aarhus-sæt

Dave mentions the now-defunct BattleCon Kickstarter project.

Check out Dan’s new podcast: Tales of the Unattested.

In other news, Der Letzte Bulle is getting a movie and Hulkoff is releasing a new single. There’s also a new Battletech boxed game coming and Wargaming is opening a studio in Guildford.

Fab gives a quick review of The Bard’s Tale IV, which we kinda hoped has a multiplayer mode but it hasn’t. It does have Julie Fowlis, however.

We then get into the main meat of the show. Several hours of Warhammer talk, including Kill Team and Kill-Teams. Dave has been very busy building terrain for it and he explains it in scientific detail.

Dave has read many Gaunt’s Ghosts books and mentions how they strongly resemble Sharpe. Mike has finished Wolfsbane and tells us about it. We also discuss our #4Feldherren progress, or lack of it. Warhammer 40,000: Conquest – What evil is this???

Apropos of nothing: Dawn of Amber.

We close the show with your feedback.

Passionate about Primarchs

We’re freezing in Hamburg, Birmingham and Dublin under the sway of The Beast from the East. To keep ourselves warm, we fight about women Space Marines and Divinity: Original Sin II.

It’s very cold, so we discuss our various cultural means of dealing with THE BEAST FROM THE EAST.

Fab’s been creating beautiful wallpapers from maps and fighting Pro 7, no sorry PRO SIEBEN, on Twitter. Meanwhile, Mike and Dave are discussing feminist Space Marines.

We also discuss the “Legion of Dave” by Leakycheese. Also: Sisters of Battle represent!

We’ve been putting it off for way too long, so now we finally talk about our opinions on, by many accounts the best game of 2017, Divinity: Original Sin II.

Fab mentions The Crate & Crowbar‘s D&D session. Oh yeah, and #4feldherren is back!

Elite Dangerous: Beyond is out and brings some new content. Part of that is better missions and a very, very sexy ship. Contrary to what Fab said on the show, you don’t need an Alliance naval rank to buy it. Still, it’s confusingly named the Alliance Chieftain.

Just look at that ass!

We revisit the Passion Planner. Apparently it is the best selling personal organiser on US Amazon now.

As is traditional, we end the show by talking about your feedback. And remember: Read The Shadow over Innsmouth, kids!

Show Notes

Mike’s back and brings a massive amount of Warhammer 40K topics to the table. Dave and Fab talk Star Trek: Discovery, The Witcher and how to keep drone batteries from exploding.

After the usual introductory bants, we discuss the latest the latest episode of Star Trek: Discovery and how Warhammer 40K it has become.

Fab’s been reading The Last Wish, the first book in the Witcher series and he’s started on the first game as well. There also seems to be a Netflix series in the cards.

Dave’s drone battery storage.

Meanwhile, Dave has bought a drone and is very worried the battery might explode.

The meat of the show is made up of all the Warhammer 40,000 related topics Mike brought along.

Mike’s Knights of the Crimson Grail

We talk about Mike’s Knights of the Crimson Grail as well as the books Old Earth by Nick Kyme and Black Legion by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Aaron has a blog that is well worth reading.

Black Library has a new submission window open at the moment. This might be our chance to get published by Games Workshop and we ponder that we might make this the next challenge for the Vier Feldherren. The BL Bolthole might be of use here.

Fab is overcome by a minor rant on Games Workshop’s kerning.

We also discuss Operation SOAP and the fact that Boris Becker is missing his trophies. Yes, several of them. Oh, Boris and his shenanigans.

At the end of the show, we discuss feedback received from you, our listeners. This includes more information on the weird Xbox CPU bug Dave mentioned and also wood fire ovens.

Show Notes

Once again, Dave and Fab bring you everthing: rants, laughter, lethargy. We talk Zelda, the Nintendo Switch, Tom Hardy’s Taboo and the current Elite Dangerous beta.

David sent us some beer and Fab’s enjoying it during the show.

Fab’s been massively enjoying Tom Hardy’s Taboo. So naturally, we talk about it. You need to watch it. Watch it now!

Meanwhile, Dave’s been playing highly relevant game releases. Like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Something, something, Punished Venom Pancake, something, something, exploding ghost soldier whale.

In more serious game news, Fab’s been trying the new Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch. We talk about that too. Joy or Con?

Dave likes watches that are slow. Which probably explains why he plays video games that are years out of date. Fab will probably never buy another watch again. Probably also because he’s spending all of his time in the current Elite Dangerous 2.3 Beta “The Commanders”, creating himself over and over again in the new character creator Holo-Me.

He even made it into the official Elite Dangerous newsletter with this shit. In other Elite news, the RPG is back and got funded on Kickstarter!

We talk about Mozilla buying Pocket and their plans for Firefox. Dave reviews Logan. We then pimp OggCamp 2017 as well as FOSS Talk Live and end the show with your feedback. Well, that and pith helmets. And pickelhauben pith helmets. Wat.
