We are back home and bring you the second part of our Sabaton Open Air review, where we talk about the bands from the last day, including Powerwolf and Sabaton.

We are back from our trip to Sweden and give an update what we’ve all been up to. Mike has toured Denmark and has visited Legoland in Billund. Fab has started playing Divinity: Original Sin II with the Danish boys, finished the story of Battletech, had a wonderful trip on a beautiful old ship and is still loving Stålenhag. His new favourite podcast is Wrestle Me. Dave has mostly been loving Sweden.

In the main segment of this episode, we finish our recap of Sabaton Open Air 2018, which we started on the previous episode. Bands reviewed:

We end the show with your feedback. And remember to check out @hwoutlaws.

The GNR theme tune is The Washington Post March by John Philip Sousa.

We bring you a special report from Sabaton Open Air, covering a lot of heavy metal and Swedish cake specialities.

Fab, Dave and Mike are in a hotel room in Falun, Sweden with a gang of crazy Danes on the second day of Operation SOAP, our trip to Sabaton Open Air. It’s Mike’s birthday, so we have Prinsesstårta, booze and board games and we’re reviewing our festival experience thus far as well as the ride up from Copenhagen to Falun.

Dave and Fab discuss software development crunch, freelance journalism, music and the game Objects in Space. There’s also some geek news to wade through, of course.

Fab was a guest on FLOSS Weekly 492 together with Dan (you know, that guy from Linux Outlaws). Also, he’s going freelance with his day job by the end of the year. He’s also started a new Twitch channel. Dave’s been hit by crunch, and he says it’s as horrible as people say it is. He’s managed to work on his Kill Team stuff, though.

Fab’s been really enjoying Hulkoff. He’s also bought a ticket for Wacken 2019 as Sabaton is headlining.

Fab’s been playing Objects in Space and reviews the game.

Alex Jones is being shut down everywhere, Fab things this isn’t a good thing. Unsurprisingly, Dave disagrees. In other news, there’s now a campaign to fix PUBG. The first thing they should fix is the cheater problem.

Fallout 76 is not coming to Steam. Idiots.

We end the show with your feedback and the bombshell news that Dave has deleted his Twitter account. 😳

Fab and Mike talk about Heavy Metal, Warhammer 40K fiction, female Space Marines and the changes that are being wrought upon our hobby.

We start the episode with a preview of Operation SOAP, our trip to Sabaton Open Air in Falun, Sweden. Fab will take his motorbike and meet up with Mike and the boys in Copenhagen and then we’ll drive up together. Mike reviews the bands we definitely want to see – aside from the almighty Sabaton, of course.

Fab is especially intrigued by Hulkoff. And yes, he indeed has an outlaw country band like Fab suspected.

We also talk about Danish student caps for some reason.

Mike then goes through the Black Library books he’s read recently. This includes the Eisenhorn short story collection The Magos and the latest Gaunt’s Ghosts book by Dan Abnett: The Warmaster. He’s also read The Devastation of Baal by Guy Haley. Currently, he’s reading Wolfsbane which was also written by Guy Haley.

We mention the background book The Sabbat Worlds Crusade which Mike is lucky enough to own, and also Warmaster Macaroth.

Fab and Mike then dive into the fray of the discussion around female Space Marines. Especially Fab is not OK with this prospect and we try to analyse why that is. This ends up being a quite thorough discussion about contemporary changes to fictional universes we’ve loved since we were kids.

This week, we have no feedback. Send us some for an upcoming show! Or even better, come and join our Discord.

Show Notes

Mike’s back and brings a massive amount of Warhammer 40K topics to the table. Dave and Fab talk Star Trek: Discovery, The Witcher and how to keep drone batteries from exploding.

After the usual introductory bants, we discuss the latest the latest episode of Star Trek: Discovery and how Warhammer 40K it has become.

Fab’s been reading The Last Wish, the first book in the Witcher series and he’s started on the first game as well. There also seems to be a Netflix series in the cards.

Dave’s drone battery storage.

Meanwhile, Dave has bought a drone and is very worried the battery might explode.

The meat of the show is made up of all the Warhammer 40,000 related topics Mike brought along.

Mike’s Knights of the Crimson Grail

We talk about Mike’s Knights of the Crimson Grail as well as the books Old Earth by Nick Kyme and Black Legion by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Aaron has a blog that is well worth reading.

Black Library has a new submission window open at the moment. This might be our chance to get published by Games Workshop and we ponder that we might make this the next challenge for the Vier Feldherren. The BL Bolthole might be of use here.

Fab is overcome by a minor rant on Games Workshop’s kerning.

We also discuss Operation SOAP and the fact that Boris Becker is missing his trophies. Yes, several of them. Oh, Boris and his shenanigans.

At the end of the show, we discuss feedback received from you, our listeners. This includes more information on the weird Xbox CPU bug Dave mentioned and also wood fire ovens.
