Show Notes

Fab reviews Prey, Dave asks poignant questions about the new Star Trek series and there’s a lot of harmony all around. And an epic rant. We must have a rant.

Right off the bat, our two hosts fall into a massive rathole concerning personal developments. Fab got a new tattoo and is happy that his bike has been repaired.

He also got a 3D print of The Expanse‘s Rocinante from a colleague.

Meanwhile, Dave has been watching a screening of the first Harry Potter movie scored live by an orchestra. In other news, if you haven’t yet, subscribe to airproud95. He’s amazing. Officially our new favourite YouTuber.

Oh yeah, that arctic seed vault we talked about recently is in trouble.

At long last, we get to the main part of the show. Fab reviews Prey, which as far as we can tell, has next to nothing to do with the other Prey it’s loosely based on. Fab really likes it (the new Prey).

After this, we discuss the return of Twin Peaks and the Star Trek: Discovery trailer.

We have mixed feelings about what we saw. On one hand it’s exciting, on the other the ship looks quite shit. In an old school sort of way. And there are other problems with it, of course.

You didn’t send us much feedback, but we address what we have before ending the episode.

Show Notes

Fab and Dave talk about Mass Effect. A lot. Both Andromeda and the original trilogy.

By way of an introduction, we tell you about our booze habits. Nothing new there. Dave then explains why Battle Beast are awesome (he saw them live in concert the other night). Also: Who would’ve believed Games Workshop would sort out their merchandise game one of these days? Banging.

In space news, you can now visit the Trappist-1 system in Elite. Space nerd boner guaranteed!

We then dive into the meat of the show, a massive conversation about Mass Effect: Andromeda and why it’s shit. And why Dave loves it nonetheless. We also discuss the original Mass Effect games. Fab’s been taking a page out of Dave’s book and has started, highly relevant chap that he is, to play through the first game.

Here are some impressions of Dave’s green-haired Ryder going about her business:

And this is what Fab’s Shepard looks like in the first Mass Effect. That’s ten-year-old tech.

The facial animations are better than the ones in the new game, believe it or not. Case in point:

We also mentioned some other images on the episode which Fab came across while we recorded:

After all of that, Dave mentions the Kickstarter for Rampunctious and Fab reports that he backed Bellingcat. We also stole the idea of a Book of Grudges from The Crate & Crowbar.

We end the show with your feedback. You can get in contact with us in a variety of ways. Until next time, suckers!

Show Notes

In this episode, we catch up with the news in the geek world. That includes Amazon’s Dash Buttons, EVE Online going free-to-play, aliens and other space news.

We’ve been playing Elite Dangerous, which is clearly the best space game. Do you play? Why not join the Ghost Division? Oh well, if you’d rather wait for Star Citizen and Squadron 42… it has been delayed. Of course it has.

Amazon Dash Buttons. What the fuck.

Aliens

We also discuss PlayStation Now streaming and the aliens that weren’t any. And Batman, Turkey.

Dave then explains EVE clone states. Basically, EVE’s gone free-to-play. Could be it’s to do with the subscribers going down. Probably is. In other news: Elon’s spacepenis exploded, Linux turned 25 (fuck me!) and OpenOffice is dying.

At this point in the show, listener Tim Fletcher injects some drama by asking our opinions on the University of Chicago letter and phil0co tells us about The Curious Expedition. Fab will review the game in the next episode.

Dave is going to Black Library Live 2016. Fab wishes he could go too. This sleep lab seems broken.

We cap the show with some feedback and say goodbye until next time when we will talk about Sabaton and other metallic things.

Show Notes

The winged hussars have arrived. On this GNR: Dave hates No Man’s Sky and Suicide Squad. And we discuss what makes a game.

Winged Hussars

We are back. And we explain why we didn’t podcast for a while. Well, Dave did. But it was on another show. We also hype on about Sabaton endlessly.

Fab’s taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Hamburg. Dave saw Suicide Squad and absolutely hated it. He did, however, love I Am Slaughter.

We then discuss No Man’s Sky. Which Dave absolutely didn’t like. Fab likes it a bit, but much prefers Elite. We also have a fight about if this is actually a game or not. We aren’t sure.

And as if all of that wasn’t enough bullshit, we also answer your questions.

Show Notes

We wish you a happy holiday and deliver to you the third GNR which is also the last episode of 2015. The show should be back on the air at the beginning of January, if everything goes according to plan. In this episode, we talk more about The Expanse, about M.C. Escher, Elite Dangerous: Horizons and about Mozilla’s plans, or lack thereof, for both Firefox OS and Thunderbird. We are not in much of a Christmas mood but we’re trying to fix that with alcohol. To that end, Fab’s having König Pilsener and Dave’s drinking Cats Whiskers.

There’s scepticism about Star Wars and the Star Trek trailer.

Dave says you gotta see the M.C. Escher exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London if you can. Fab points out that ole M.C. kinda looked like John McAfee. We also discover that we have no idea what tessellation actually is.

Fab has been playing Elite Dangerous: Horizons and it is glorious. He’s been writing about it too. Doesn’t the Keelback look like the Defiant? Here’s a list of all the ships in the game. The big dong-shaped one is just a fan mockup, though. Of course it is…

Meanwhile in EVE, Mordu’s Legion has declared war on the Serpentis mercenaries.

Still on a massive Expanse bender, Fab talks about the books this time. He’s in the middle of Leviathan Wakes and boy is it a story and a half. It’s an amazing feat of world building and we talk about some of the things that make it special.

Mozilla is giving up on Thunderbird. Firefox OS is also dead. Apparently, they are now“pivoting to connected devices”; as in: The Internet of Shit.

Dominique Tipper is great. Fab is in love with her accent. And we need a Pur & Kleen hoodie from Last Exit to Nowhere.
