Show Notes

We wish you a happy holiday and deliver to you the third GNR which is also the last episode of 2015. The show should be back on the air at the beginning of January, if everything goes according to plan. In this episode, we talk more about The Expanse, about M.C. Escher, Elite Dangerous: Horizons and about Mozilla’s plans, or lack thereof, for both Firefox OS and Thunderbird. We are not in much of a Christmas mood but we’re trying to fix that with alcohol. To that end, Fab’s having König Pilsener and Dave’s drinking Cats Whiskers.

There’s scepticism about Star Wars and the Star Trek trailer.

Dave says you gotta see the M.C. Escher exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London if you can. Fab points out that ole M.C. kinda looked like John McAfee. We also discover that we have no idea what tessellation actually is.

Fab has been playing Elite Dangerous: Horizons and it is glorious. He’s been writing about it too. Doesn’t the Keelback look like the Defiant? Here’s a list of all the ships in the game. The big dong-shaped one is just a fan mockup, though. Of course it is…

Meanwhile in EVE, Mordu’s Legion has declared war on the Serpentis mercenaries.

Still on a massive Expanse bender, Fab talks about the books this time. He’s in the middle of Leviathan Wakes and boy is it a story and a half. It’s an amazing feat of world building and we talk about some of the things that make it special.

Mozilla is giving up on Thunderbird. Firefox OS is also dead. Apparently, they are now“pivoting to connected devices”; as in: The Internet of Shit.

Dominique Tipper is great. Fab is in love with her accent. And we need a Pur & Kleen hoodie from Last Exit to Nowhere.

Show Notes

Here we are, we made it to broadcast number two and you better take a step back because Fab is on the Bullenschluck. Dave really wants princess cake, even though he thinks it’s from Denmark when it is actually from Sweden – it does look amazing, though. On our first proper episode, we talk about Fallout 4 and the awesomeness that is The Expanse.

Fab thinks Fallout 4 is possibly the best game ever made. For Dave, it’s mostly annoying. His rants on the annoying bits are really funny, though. What we can both agree on, is that the robo-butler is great. And he can say a fuckton of names.

We obsess about The Expanse, both the new TV series and the books. The story of how it all came about is pretty amazing. If you want to keep up with what’s going on with the series, the books and the fans, subscribe to the subreddit. Dave wants more three point landings, though.

Dave also thinks you might also want to read the new Dan Abnett book. Speaking of Warhammer 40,000 and Games Workshop, they apparently don’t treat their IT guys very well. We do treat our listeners somewhat better and read out some of your feedback on our first episode.

In virtual space news, EVE Online, which has massive fights, gets more ships. Elite: Dangerous, which has massive expeditions, gets planetary landings. Elite is very beautiful, too.

Show Notes

The first episode of Geek News Radio is finally here. Yes, we did it. We actually started the show and we answer the most important question of all: What the fuck? So. Here’s the show notes for numero uno:

The Welsh make whisky, because why not. Fab’s drinking Scotch, however. More specifically: 16 year old Jura. Dave’s drinking Johnnie Walker Black Label.

Autodesk makes many Android apps, apparently. Our first podcasts were The Bugle for Dave and PowerUser.TV for Fab.

Fab talks about a great Babylon 5 episode that delivers some very on-point media critique: The Illusion of Truth. The TV channel in B5 is called Interstellar Network News and they can’t acronym. Cynthia Torqueman is a great announcer name, though.

We hope you liked the first GNR broadcast. Please tell us what you think. An no, we do not have a Patreon. See you in two weeks!
