Show Notes

Fab reviews Prey, Dave asks poignant questions about the new Star Trek series and there’s a lot of harmony all around. And an epic rant. We must have a rant.

Right off the bat, our two hosts fall into a massive rathole concerning personal developments. Fab got a new tattoo and is happy that his bike has been repaired.

He also got a 3D print of The Expanse‘s Rocinante from a colleague.

Meanwhile, Dave has been watching a screening of the first Harry Potter movie scored live by an orchestra. In other news, if you haven’t yet, subscribe to airproud95. He’s amazing. Officially our new favourite YouTuber.

Oh yeah, that arctic seed vault we talked about recently is in trouble.

At long last, we get to the main part of the show. Fab reviews Prey, which as far as we can tell, has next to nothing to do with the other Prey it’s loosely based on. Fab really likes it (the new Prey).

After this, we discuss the return of Twin Peaks and the Star Trek: Discovery trailer.

We have mixed feelings about what we saw. On one hand it’s exciting, on the other the ship looks quite shit. In an old school sort of way. And there are other problems with it, of course.

You didn’t send us much feedback, but we address what we have before ending the episode.

Show Notes

Mike joins us for an impromptu Warhammer 40K lore chat and we discuss starting out in Elite Dangerous. Additionally, Dave and Mike recap the Sabaton gig in Dublin.

As Dave continues to point out, we couldn’t do the show without Bytemark’s BigV.  We thank them very much.

What are we drinking this episode? Mike’s enjoying Gammel Dansk, while Dave has a whole battery of drinks ready. Some are even in his lap. Fab’s enjoying pints of G&T made with The Duke. He prefers Centauri Mega Gin, whenever possible, though. Also: the seed bunker is real.

Before we even start the show proper, Mike manages to rathole it with a huge discourse on The Master of Mankind and the nature of the Imperium of Man. This includes interesting tidbits of how the Albigensian Crusade and Château de Montségur relate to the 40K universe.

We are nominated for the Linux Questions “Linux/Open Source Podcast of the Year” award. Even though we aren’t a Linux podcast by a long shot. It’s hilarious! In other news, PETA is going after Games Workshop because of all the animal skins on Warhammer models. We think they are actually serious as well. Comedy gold. You can’t make this shit up!

Dave and Mike talk about their trip to see Sabaton in Dublin. Mike accidentally discovers the perfect Sabaton concert shoes in the process.

Mike has bought Elite Dangerous and Fab tries to recruit him for the Hutton Truckers. We also talk about the upcoming character creator and multicrew features. In the meantime, Star Citizen is forging ahead as well.

We end the show with your feedback, which involves this graph.

Show Notes

We enter a new year, but Geek News Radio stays the same as always. This episode, we bring you Elite news, predictions for the year and talk about The Expanse.

We start the show off with our usual overview of what we’ve been up to and explain why it took us so long to get back on the air. Good news: You can now listen to the show comfortably on your Sonos via TuneIn.

On Dave’s initiative, we give you some predictions for the current year:

There’s a Necromunda video game coming. In other news, Brian Krebs thinks he has figured out who authored the Mirai botnet.

We also review our Bullet Journal experience so far and Fab talks about the new Expanse book Babylon’s Ashes.

One topic keeps coming back to us through the whole episode: Just why is Enterprise such a good show? We attempt an answer.

We move on to Elite news: The Thargoids are coming and there’s a Kickstarter on for a pen and paper RPG set in the Elite universe. Meanwhile Fab’s joined the Hutton Orbital Truckers.

Fab also talks about his trip to Jaques Station in Colonia.

At the end of the show, we mention the GNRBBL and then wrap up with your feedback.

Show Notes

Offshore Mike joins us for a nice long Black Library discussion, Dave reviews Huel, explains Bullet Journal and Fab rants about Star Trek Beyond.

First off: trouble is brewing at Cyanogen. In other sad news, The Expanse is not streaming on Amazon Prime in the UK. Of course not, because we can’t have nice things. To make things worse (or better, if you agree with Dave), Niantic has shut down third party Pokémon Go services. The bastards.

Dave remembers FOSS Talk Live and gives us a review of Huel. What a brave man. Apparently it tastes like cardboard with some extra grit mixed in for flavour.

Huel

We then discuss Bullet Journal, Passion Planner and wank on about notebooks from Leuchtturm 1917 and Analog.

Bullet Journal

Also: Operation Teapot. Wow.

Mike talks about the latest instalment in the Horus Heresy series, Angels of Caliban by Gav Thorpe and we philosophise if Luther is maybe not such a bad guy after all.

Luther

Mike finds out that he is not the greatest private detective in the world when he fails to guess Laurie Goulding’s email address to send questions about starship names to him. However, the questions have finally arrived with Laurie and we can hopefully present his answers in a future show.

We also discuss The Beast Arises.

To round out the show, Fab explains a lot of stuff that is wrong with Star Trek Beyond. For one thing, Idris Elba completely fizzles out under all that makeup. Well, at least we guess that’s Idris Elba…

Krall

We end the show with …you guessed it… feedback.
