We’re not dead and we have some (at this point pretty stale) E3 news. We also talk tech news stuff as well.

We recorded this episode during the week of E3. Due to a lot of shit going on in Fab’s life, it took us ages to release it. We are sorry for this. We hope you enjoy the episode nonetheless.

At the start of the episode, we recap some things that have happened since we recorded the last GNR. This includes The Expanse being saved, and FOSS Talk Live going well. An Fab’s a bit distracted because of this YouTube channel.

Last time Dave took a train in central Europe, it didn’t go so well.

Dave has been to the Rocket League World Championship and Fab talks about how his bike tour through the Alps went. Fab also saw Kiefer Sutherland play a concert in Hamburg an enjoyed it very much. Dave mentions The Happy Song.

We start off the show proper with some general news:

 Netrunner is dead

 Microsoft has bought GitHub

 Paradox has bought Harebrained Schemes

Next up is E3 news. We talk about Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls VI, Cyberpunk 2077 and the new Bethesda franchise.

We also discuss the PUBG winter map, Jurassic World Evolution and The Division 2. In non-gaming news: Babylon 5 is apparently coming to Amazon Video.

We end the show, as always, with your feedback.

Shorts and Comic Books

Dave and Fab discuss Amazon’s Bosch, Netflix’ Lost in Space and Marvel’s Infinity War.

First off, some news: Pillars of Eternity II is out and looks like it’s shaping up to be as great as its predecessor. Fab is looking forward to playing it a lot, but has no clue when he can find the time because he’s still playing Battletech a lot.

In other news, Elite Dangerous for the Mac is dead for technical reasons.

Fab has been watching Bosch, a cop show on Amazon starring Titus Welliver. He also reviews Lost in Space on Netflix. Dave really likes Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Dave’s been to the cinema and has watched Avengers: Infinity War. You will be shocked to discover that he enjoyed it very much.

We wrap up the episode with some feedback from our awesome Discord server.

Old Man Dave talks about Ubuntu 18.04 on the Dell XPS 13 and Lara Croft fanboy Fab talks about his experience at the premiere event for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. He also reviews BattleTech.

Fab has finally figured out why Dave’s audio was suboptimal for ages and it isn’t pretty – it turns out Fab’s an idiot. Speaking of annoying things: Dave gives an update on House Ownership 101.

Dave has bought a Dell XPS 13 and slapped Ubuntu 18.04 on it – by all accounts it’s going quite well. He’s also started using Atom to see if Fab’s completely mad for using it instead of Sublime Text.

Meanwhile, Fab was in London at the exclusive Shadow of the Tomb Raider premiere event. The game looks great, Fab’s very much looking forward to its release in September.

Until Shadow of the Tomb Raider arrives, though, Fab’s currently favourite game in the world is Battletech. It’s so fucking good!

We wrap up the show by answering your feedback. Including a scathing email from Listener No. 1 Niklas. It also seems Mike’s been busy stealing Bitcoins…

Doesn't Understand

Fab, Dave and Char talk Into the Breach, Into the Breach, more Into the Breach and great TV shows.

Our friend Char makes her triumphant return to the podcast and brings stories about how the Islamic State was defeated during the Big Crunch of 2017.

This episode was in storage for a while, in case it isn’t immediately obvious – mostly because Fab lost Episode 59. We can therefore now actually congratulate Char on winning a BAFTA here in the show notes, as we didn’t know if that was indeed going to happen when we recorded.

As usual, we start by talking about booze and then there’s some board game talk because Dave played Power Grid with his engineering mates. Twilight Imperium is also discussed. We also introduce the Forstamt Pochinki.

We then enter the main topic: Into the Breach, which is Char’s new obsession. And for good reason – it’s excellent! You should also keep an eye on Slava’s Encased.

If you need to do some writing, you should check out the Payday 2 Soundtrack.

After the games talk, we discuss TV shows. Stuff we enjoy: Taboo, Halt and Catch Fire, Dark and Wild Wild Country. Fab also mentions the game Scavenger SV-4.

Fab’s Top Spotify Songs of 2017 is quite a mix, try to engineer recommendations on that one.

As is tradition, we end the show with your feedback. See you next time!

Show Notes

Before we disappear into the holidays, we deliver a massive episode with the best of what GNR has to offer: A hilarious Mozilla fuckup, a Star Citizen rant, a Star Wars review, our Games of the Year and some video game Warhammer.

As part of the site redesign, Fab has changed the Sixgun logo and GNR album art a bit. We hope you like the new look.

In the news:

Mozilla made a lot of people really angry with a Firefox / Mr. Robot publicity stunt.

Crytek is suing Star Citizen over the CryEngine.

Fab won the #4Feldherren Turtle Race. Joe still has a huge box of shame.

Fab got an iPhone 7 as a replacement for his dead Nexus 5X. Dave reviews Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He liked it, but you probably already guessed that. Fab still can’t be bothered.

We discuss our Game of the Year. Dave’s runner-ups are: 5. Deep Sea Adventure, 4. Divinity: Original Sin II, 3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 2. XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. Fab’s runner-ups are: 5. Prey, 4. The Signal from Tölva, 3. Heat Signature and 2. Divinity: Original Sin II.

Dave’s winner is Warhammer 40.000 8th Edition.

Fab’s winner is Total War: Warhammer II.

Fab reviews his game of the year: Total War: Warhammer II. He really, really likes it.

We revisit our predictions for 2017 from the beginning of this year. We’ll give fresh predictions for 2018 in the first episode of the new year. This episode was long as it is at this point.

For the last time in 2017, we address your feedback. Including a weird discussion of playing card suits. We will be back in January of 2018. Until then, have a merry Christmas and a bloody good party to ring in the new year!
